Microsoft has today announced the contents of the recently released patch for the Xbox One console, which was available for download earlier today.
On the surface, the new update brings nothing visual to the table, but Microsoft’s Major Nelson has assured fans that it will bring significant change in the future, namely for the backwards compatibility function for the Xbox One, and streaming games via Windows 10.
“Later today Xbox One owners will be getting a new system update” Major Nelson announced. “This update prepares for game streaming (launching July 29th) and our upcoming backward compatibility feature launching in a few months. There are no new user-facing features in this release as the team focuses on the new Xbox One experience”
The Xbox One backwards compatibility feature was announced during Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference, a move which absolutely no one within the industry saw coming. The feature is currently only available to those subscribed to the Preview Programme, but will be available for all later this year.
