Star Wars Battlefront developer DICE has revealed it never considered including a single player campaign in the upcoming shooter, and multiplayer was always the focus.
While speaking to Gamespot, the developer’s general manager Patrick Bach was asked whether the lack of a single player campaign was a consequence of needing to launch the game prior to the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, releasing in December.
Bach states in response that although the December deadline “did influence DICE’s decisions early on”, a single player aspect of the game was never even considered by the studio. “To be honest, single player was never the plan. It was never the concept”
“The concept for us was that we always wanted players to re-live the battles” Bach continued. “We wanted them to play the battles from the original movies. And DICE, coming from its Battlefield background, knows how to make awesome battles in that context”
Star Wars Battlefront is due for release on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on November 20th.
