Microsoft definitely came out swinging at E3, and no demo was as impressive as the Rise of the Tomb Raider world debut.
We were once again shown Lara in a perilous mountain condition, as we had throughout both the trailer and recently leaked screenshots. The gameplay showed both Lara and Jonah, who returns from the previous reboot of the series, searching for a lost city within the mountains.
When Croft finally made it to the top of the mountain and gazed upon the city, lightning struck from the sky instantly, similar to the supernatural elements of the last game. Our protagonist was then forced to rapidly flee from the mountain, utilising a series of ropes and crevices to make her way off the collapsing side of the mountain.
After being buried under an avalanche, our hero emerged to a cinematic trailer, with Lara stating the something ‘dark’ dwelt in the land, while she also finally felt a sense of purpose. Also shown off during the cinematic was the various locations of the game, ranging from scorching hot to frigidly cold.
And that was it for Rise of the Tomb Raider, with a release date being revealed unfortunately for the same day as Fallout 4. I fully expect to see to see Microsoft possibly switch the date around for Tomb Raider, moving it out of the way slightly as Fallout.
